Wonderful place to visit in Rome. Architecture, history and art. Maybe not ideal for small children.

Beautiful rooms, art and sculptures. The audio guide is by the current head of the Pamphilj family, and is both informative and personal. Get it!

I stumbled upon this Gallery by accident and it is stunning. The audio guide is very helpful. While other Roman sites were busy and crowded, this place was uncrowded, spatious and naturally lit. I loved it!

5/ 5

The art collection is in the natural position where it was ordered, first two story high audience room is covered completly bottom - top with paintings in all usable space. Collection of Pamphilli was later merged with Doria and Aldobrandini. Marble busts of important familly members decorate rooms but the most repeating in number and importance is Innocent X the pope, whose Vellasquez portrait is the masterpiece of the collection, deserving a separate room. The pope is almost vividly present with strong and powerfull gaze, but somehow the above light doesnt give good reflection for photos, i would like the darker ambient with lid painting. Among lot of landscape motives there's a number of interesting paintings by Jan Brueghel the Elder, (one by more famous Peter) which i liked. There's a nice mirrorr hall decorated with roman statues - audio guide says there were "completed" in 18. century with missing parts, so are not completely genuine. The other, large roman marble room, had a terrible accident in 1980-ties when roof collapsed and broke to pieces most of the statues collection so they were painstakingly restorated. Audio guide is excellent, but some interesting marbles and pictures are not explained neither on the audio nor text description which was a pitty.
