Kite Museum (Tako-no-Hakubutsukan) tokyo japan

Finding kites in Tokyo was surprisingly difficult until we found the Kite museum. Sitting on the 5th floor above a busy restaurant with only a small metal sign above the building entrance, the 200¥ entrance fee was more than reasonable. The space is small but every surface is carefully used to display an amazing range of kites and memorabilia. We were warmly welcomed and and given information to help us understand the collection. Definitely worth a visit if you have an interest in Kites!

Wild but fun collection/museum. Entrance is 200¥ for adults and half that for children/junior high students. Not much info in english, just a small brochure and a german book about kites. However, you should just come here to see an incredible and very specific collection. I was somewhat blown away and never thought Id spend almost an hour looking at kites and kite accessories in the middle of tokyo but I had a blast! It really is incredibly dense, since there seem to be items stacked ontop of eachother due to lack of space and there just isnt a clear organization. Id say a fun visit worth the entrance fee if youre in the area!

Tricky to find, hidden on the fifth floor above the restaurant downstairs, this little gem is worth tracking down. Although only a small museum, they've made the most of every space available to pack in as many kites as possible. From massive dragon kites, down to tiny, coin-sized kites, you'll find them all here.
