Lovely little bistro in a pretty location. The staff were attentive and managed to fit us in; despite us just turning up on spec. And whilst dealing with two large groups. I thought the location was charming, and whilst it certainly wasn't high gloss, it was authentic and had that atmosphere that basement locations lit with candles and good old fashioned bulbs have in spades! I was a tiny bit disappointed by the beer delivery (canned to table) the choice was great and had a great deal of local in it. I even ran into someone extolling the virtues of Thistly Cross Cider and complaining that it wasn't served nearly enough in Edinburgh, well it is here... I really enjoyed the food, which was a light lunch with drinks, and thought the price reasonable especially given the location. That said I can't comment on things like the steak which I didn't try on this visit. My better half was very impressed with the wine list though, and had a couple of reds that she rated highly. Again the prices seemed pretty reasonable. Oh and I didn't see the fantastic garden terrace and views that others have mentioned. It was raining hard, and late January. On a balmy night, or even just a dry one, I imagine the city would look fantastic!
